The Direction of light
The direction of the light source not only has a significant impact on the appearance of the object presented but also determines the emotional color conveyed by the scene.
FRONT LIGHTING
Front light is a type of lighting that places the main light source directly in front of the subject. The light source illuminates the subject evenly, and produces minimal shadows, but tends to look flat and lack depth.
SIDE LIGHTING
Side lighting is light that hits the subject from one side. It not only helps to highlight the subject’s shape, brings out textures, and enhances layering and three-dimensionality, but also emphasizes shadows and can add contrast while exaggerating depth as well. This type of lighting is especially good for creating a unique mood.
BACKLIGHTING
Backlighting is the process of illuminating the subject from the back, Backlighting helps separate the subject and the background, outlines the contour of the subject, and adds drama to the frame.
